Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound is a pain-free, non-invasive, simple treatment that can help with injury healing and pain reduction. It uses similar technology to the ultrasound that is used when a lady is pregnant to view the baby, only a different frequency that doesn’t produce an image, but rather a therapeutic effect.

Therapeutic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves. This causes a micro massage of the tissues which in turn results in:

  • Increased healing rates
  • Better tissue relaxation
  • Deep tissue heating
  • Increased local blood flow
  • Increased scar tissue breakdown

By improving blood flow to the injured area, it helps to bring healing proteins to the site, reduce swelling and reduce inflammation, all of which help to promote healing. Therapeutic ultrasound can be useful when treating tendons, ligaments and several other soft tissue structures.

We use therapy to treat several conditions that may affect the foot and leg including but not limited to:

  • Tendinopathies or tendonitis (such as Achilles tendinopathy)
  • Heel pain (such as plantar fasciitis)
  • Bursitis
  • Neuromas
  • Ankle sprains and ligament injuries
  • Sesamoiditis
